Expand Your Heart with Sr. Lucy’s Love

The new book about Maher is here!

Hello friends! I have finally finished my third (and last!) book about Maher, just in time for Sr. Lucy’s visit in March. (And after that, I will return to monthly newsletters about all things body and movement and ease while doing all the things you enjoy doing!) You can scroll to the bottom for events and dates.

Welcome Sr Lucy to Maine!

Come celebrate with us, bask in Lucy-love, and be inspired!

Learn more about Maher’s work spreading across India, one village at a time.

Maher “Mother's Home” was founded in 1997 by Sister Lucy Kurien. Maher provides shelter and care to women in crisis, supportive homes to children and disabled adults, and extensive grassroots projects in communities focused on women's empowerment, sustainable financial growth, and education. Started as a single safe-home in Pune, Maher now serves thousands in seven Indian states. Maher’s broad array of services uplift whole communities toward the vision of an India where there is no longer a need for shelter homes. Maher is an interfaith, caste-free haven of hope where “Love is Our Religion.”

Taking Maher Across India

The new book is Village by Village: Uplifting Communities the Maher Way. This is the only book about Maher’s amazing village development work in rural India, slums, tribal areas, with migrant families and more. The communities where Maher has worked have been transformed:

·      domestic violence is rare;

·      all children, including girls, are educated;

·      poverty is significantly reduced;

·      religious and caste intolerance is greatly reduced;

·      adult literacy is taught;

·      hygiene and access to clean water, biogas, compost etc. is addressed;

·      vocational training programs are offered; people become self-sufficient;

·      and more.

Many of the changes Maher has fostered are highly counter-cultural in India, yet Maher has become respected and trusted across many boundaries in India. In fact, Sr. Lucy is spoken of in India as a current day Mother Teresa.
