GROW MORE EASE - NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE!
I can’t count how many times I have heard “well, I’m getting older so aches and pains and doing less is to be expected.” Argh!!
You do not have to be riddled with aches and pains and strains as you age! That is a story my people and I do not choose to live.
In my years of experience as a Yoga Therapist and Bowenworker, I have worked with people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80’s – even 90s. I get to be part of so many success stories – it’s a blast!
People are reducing their pain, doing more, feeling better. They recover faster from falls, surgery, etc. They have more resilience, even when they push.
Lots of the folks I see have osteoarthritis. What I help them do is move their hips (or shoulders or knees or spine) better and get a little stronger.
Their osteoarthritis did not go away, however how they loaded their joints changed so the pain that they were experiencing absolutely did go away. Did we change the degeneration in the joint? No. Did we change some of the inflammation? Probably.
I know for sure we changed how the person moved. We reduced their compensation patterns; we improved their neuromuscular communication.
And what’s really cool is that their experience of moving in their body is different, better! They began to rewrite their story and believe in what was actually possible.
One woman is golfing better in her 70s than she did in their 60s – and walking instead of riding in a cart. Another is enjoying playing with grandkids with ease. Another woman is back to hiking on wooded hillside trails without “paying for it.” A woman in her 70s runs an organic farm and works circles around the college student interns who get tired!
The reality is that if you can learn how to move your body better, breathe better, become quiet within, and become curious, then you too can reduce your pain. I see it all the time!
