You can only do this for so long….
I get it. Pushing through to get ‘er done works. For a while.
And then you pay for it later. Remember that sore back, frozen shoulder, stiff or swollen knee….?
My clients and I have all been there, done that.
They come saying they want to “get stronger.” They want to be able to do more without hurting or paying for it later. Especially as they age.
They think they need to move harder, faster, deeper, do more reps. Just push more.
You see, the issue with pushing is that we brace, grip and hold our breath to do more. Bracing, gripping, holding the breath – these all seriously compromise our core, disrupt natural movement patterns, and actually decrease stability as well as mobility.
This rabbit hole just gets deeper. Most of us by mid-life have compensatory movement patterns left over from falls, injuries, surgeries, repetitive patterns (whether hunching over a computer or playing a one-sided sport for example) or just from a lifetime of pushing.
As we push harder, the compensations get layered on top of each other. We end up holding it together with “duct tape and baling wire” as my dad used to say.
At Turning Light I offer a different way to move. A way to develop easeful, supple and agile strength.
If you would like to have easeful, supple and agile strength, you can have it. I can help you get there.
Therapeutic Yoga is our primary vehicle for building easeful, supple and agile strength. But if you are recovering from an injury or surgery, you might want to start with Bowenwork to help your body get back on track. We can add some movement “homework” to that, then transition to more full therapeutic yoga. (Or post-surgery or tear, McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release.) FMI https://www.turninglight.org/modalities
